See How the Sun Shines, Lilly Martin Spencer
More than a decade ago, Winterthur, long known for its collection of early American decorative arts, significantly expanded the range of what the museum collects. Gone are the days when 1840 marked the “hard stop” of objects found in the museum’s 175-room house and galleries building. This lecture focuses on a selection of paintings, furniture, glass, ceramics, textiles and more that will have you reimagining the expansiveness of the museum’s collection. With a tilt towards Victorian-era objects and beyond, this illustrated talk is a visual journey and a glimpse into the innovation and scholarship that are shaping the Winterthur of the 21st century.
